9/29 NIGHT CAP - WEAKFISH - MANAHAWKIN BAY

Got down the the house Saturday 4pm and got the light gear ready. As I was gassing up the rig I noticed bait jumping mad all over my lagoon. (BHW) I bought a 10' cast net and have been trying to learn it. Finally got it down. On our way out I netted about 20 peanuts and put them in the live well.
We headed out to the bridge spot right around sunset. The bay was flat as glass. Anchored up and tossed over the clam chum. I was fishing a chartreuse 1oz buck tail with a live peanut on my calcutta 401 bait caster and my 2 buddies were using high-low rigs with clam and squid. Not even 5 minutes in and BAM, my buddies light pole bent in half. Ended up boating a nice Drum.
A few minutes later I was fishing the buck tail and it got smashed! 22" Weakfish in the boat. Fished the peanuts for a while so I switched to a Gulp Shrimp on the same buck tail. A few casts later, boom another weakfish @ 14".
We also caught a bunch of sea bass and small blues. Action the whole time we were out there.
Came back in and was loading up on the peanut bunks. Filled up two 5 gallon buckets and stuck em in the freezer. Also netted a weakfish.
Great times, close to home!
James.

Great report.
Nutz typically don't take well to the freezer. Maybe someone can share some tips.

A old trick for freezing Spearing and Nutz as you called them. we used a cardboard milk container put bait in not tightly add lightly salted water and freeze.

Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime.
