hareball's fluke trip on Irish Ayes
« on: September 07, 2007, 07:15:34 PM »
I got to the boat with part of my crew (Bob Cole, Dave B and Ritchie) at 8am.  Hareball and Capt Mike, the final two crewmen, were already at the dock patiently waiting .

A boating neighbor netted spearing and shared them with us.  Thanks, Pat.   t^  I threw the net once and had enough spearing for this trip and several more. (Will definately get used  ;D).

We pushed off by 8:30 and headed to our first stop, a lump off of the Red Church.  Not all lines were in the water and Bob Cole is already hooked up on a flattie.  Missed the box by a half inch.  I put down and with in five minutes I put the first keeper fluke in the cooler.  We made four drifts in this area and boxed eight fluke.  Also had twice as many shorts.

The water temp was 72 degrees.  The wind was from the south east at about 10 knots and began to slow for a bit.  On the last drift in this area we only had shorts so decided to try our second spot.  The dreaded, rig grabbing Shrewsbury Rocks.  Turned out to be a very good move.  (usually is a good move as this area usually produces nice fish)

Drifting at the Rocks produced more keepers.  Hareball hooked into a fish that had his rod bent over pretty good.  The fish came to the surface with some major head shakes.  Slide into the net and then onto the deck.  Put it on the measuring board and it stretched out to 28 1/2 inches!  BEAUTIFUL!!!  It stretched from one end of the cooler to the other and even had the tail curled some.  Continued to catch keepers, shorts and an occasional keeper seabass.  Many short seabass were released.

The wind now picked up and we went from using 6 oz sinkers to 12 oz'ers.  What a difference an hour made.  Made another move inshore at Monmouth Beach so we could use lighter weights.  We were able to go down to 8 ozs.  But only for a while.  Added one more to the box.

The seas began to pick up as much as the wind so we decided it was time to head home.  Had a bumpy ride back and fueled up.  As we were fueling the boat Hareball and Capt Mike took Hareball's fluke to the Fisherman's Den tackle shop for an official weigh in.  It was duly noted that Hareball had caught himself an official doormat. 10 pounds, 10 ounces!!!  WAY TO GO HAREBALL!!!!!

Finished the day with eighteen keeper fluke and five keeper seabass.

Only three more fluking days left in the year.  I'm hoping I can get out on all of them. (but not counting on it)

What a great day! Had the chance to fish with guys that are "true" fluke fisherman!! Was great to meet them all and fish with them. TT^

Capt. Joe, thanks so much for the trip ;D
You really know where to put that boat man, the drifts always had fluke. We had many over 20" if I remember right. TT^

I was shaking when that fish came on board. I only caught a glimpse of it at the surface (with legaly blind eyesight) and then had to step back for Capt. Joe to net it. Once on a white deck I was able to get a good look. Capt. Joe had to remove the hook, I was shaking lol...

thanks again w0w o@ w00t

What a great day, again with Capt. Joe, aboard The Irish Ayes. Thank you Capt. Joe for making such a great day possible. It was really nice to get to meet your crew, fish with them, learn from them, laugh with them and of coarse bust balls. AWSOME Job there Hareball, keep up the great work man and save some of these pics for memories. Can't wait for next season... Bob Cole, you are a Fluking machine.
