blue crabs

hello guys im officially going on the blackfish trip on sunday and i got 2 blue crabs to use for bait as well as shrimp how can i keep the crabs alive until my trip sunday morning ?

Wet newspaper and put them in the vegetable draw of the fridge. Blue crabs are pretty hardy.

I like using frozen Gatorade bottles or similar filled with water.  Place in cooler with wet rag or paper. Keep cooler out of full sun.  t^

Why not. as long as there fresh and not stinking. Used Frozen Blue Crabs with top shell removed cut in 1/4s many times. No problem even for Stripers frozen Thawed top shell removed fished whole. And you will find them in Say Shoprite and some other markets Frozen top shell removed.$$$$. Bill

Best bait ever for Blackfish is the SAND FLEA......You can find all you want along the surf just above the high water line.

ah didnt matter anyway all i caught where darn dogfish ugh we probably caught 500 on the boat that day people where barking like dogs up and down the boat dont even know if u can eat them

Bummer... better luck next trip. I hear the bite has been slow, but I sure would like to get out no doubt.
I personally dont eat the sand sharks; but I am sure some do.  slt

Trish they are good eating, over seas its Fish and chips. For years cosidered Trash Fish, as many of what are now caught do to lack of other fish, Problem being they have to be Skined, Blead, cleaned and Iced done very soon after catching, The ones caught in Cold water are best. If not Taken care of right away Ammonia builds in the flesh and they are then trash. Don't confuse them with sand Sharks.  msfsh

you have smooth dogfish and spiny dogfish.  The people in NJ call the smooth dogfish a sandshark, but the spiny dogfish, they just call them dogfish.
