Raritan Bay 9/22-23 overnighter
« on: September 24, 2007, 10:21:58 PM »
t^Not the weather I was looking forward to on saturday. What hppened to the sunny 80 degree day? Well we went out on my friends boat out of Keansburg with a few other friends. Started by drifting sandworms and live peanuts in the reach 12-18 cans. After several boring hours of unproductive fishing we decided to change tactics. We throttled up and moved out to the Sandy Hook Reef and work the wrecks for some sea bass. Using chartruse gulp 3" minnows we were able to keep the action going for several hours. When the bite slowed and dusk started approaching a short trip to the hook we drifted live eels. Around 10 pm we were able to boat a nice 20 lb striper. Anchored up around 1 or 2 am a northern stargazer measuring 21" and around 10 lbs decided to bite my friends eel. Very odd looking fish. See photo below. The rest of the night was filled with skate action. Later on in the a.m. drifting the reach again with dead peanuts we were able to produce a decent weakfish and about a dozen blues. Enough meat for the frying pans.
A good day of fishing is better than a bad day of fishing. A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work. That means work sucks!
