Lindenkohl Canyon report 9/30-10/01
« on: October 02, 2007, 09:43:22 AM »
Excellent trip! With the crappy canyon reports from the last 10 days, I wasnt expecting much, but it turned out great.
Fished the Gambler from P.P.  Capt Bobby and crew did a phenomenal job. Real hard working guys and kept everything flowing real smooth.
NOAA once again blew it, this time in a good way. Forecast called for 15-25 knts East with 5-7 foot seas. We arrrived at the Lindenkohl by 11:30 PM to 15 knts and 3 foot seas that laid down even more as the went on.
We had Yellowfin on within minutes of the anchor coming tight. We picked at them all through the night, and at one point at 3 AM had 6 fish hooked up at once!
These fish were truly monsters. Smallest going 65lbs, almost all in the 80-85 lb class and the biggest topping 90lb!!
Sardines were the ticket, butters and peanuts took there share, squid were hard to come by as they didnt hit jigs all night.
One fish jigged in the port stern at daybreak but broke off after a few minutes or so.
Highlight of the trip was a white marlin hooked on a butter chunk at daybreak. Fought for a few minutes before the bill cut throught the leader. The jumps and runs it made were a sight to see.
I had my 3 fish limt by 4 AM, added another at daybreak I donated to by buddy, and broke another off after fighting it for 10 minutes. 5 hookups and 4 landed, cant beat that, I'm one happy camper to say the least!!
A quick stop at a highflyer in the morning was uneventful. Chicken dolphin chasing our bucktails and baits back to the boat but would not hit a thing.
Back at the dock by 3PM with arms sore!!!!

Also, a big thanks to Joey G.  I picked up a Chaos Rod to match to a Penn International 30. Really good people to deal with, and their rod recomendation was right on the money for what I wanted.  Quality and service was top notch, I'll defintely be getting more rods from them. Thanks Joe

Great trip and a fantastic report!.. While I have'nt fished with him in some time, I always left the Gambler feeling that Capt. Bobby bent over backwards to put us on fish.. Thanks for sharing!

Nice pics, looks like you had a great time. No Belt that can be sore.
