Phyllis Ann World Tour 9/26/2013
« on: September 27, 2013, 10:00:46 AM »
After several cancellations due to weather and/or sea conditions, the Phyllis Ann finally left the dock yesterday with Rod, Jason and myself aboard.  The goal was tuna.  But, with no reports of tuna catches to speak of, it was clear this was not going to be an easy day.  We would have to go on the hunt and Rod made it clear we were going to cover a lot of ground.

We started out around the Mud Hole where we came across a few party boats anchored up and chumming for bluefish.  That was the beginning of our 120 mile tour.  We went from Monster's Ledge to the Glory Hole to the Atlantic Princess to the Resor, finally stopping by the mahi buoy before heading in.

Total tuna caught was zero.

We did manage to get our poles bent on some hefty bonito and some decent sized albies.  That action started out when Rod was reeling in a huge 10" RONZ.  As he was showing Jason how realistically it moved in the water, dancing it right on top, a hungry Fat Albert tore into it and launched itself clear out of the water!  After a spirited battle, it was landed and released. t^

We decided, since the tuna were not coming to the party, that we would stay for a bit and have some fun.  These fish were very aggressive, even attacking my big 250 gram H4L jig.

We had a fun time, despite not meeting up with Charlie.  With 120 miles behind us, and around 13 hours on the water, you can't say we didn't try.

Nice trip BonitoBob!!! Way to burn gas.

So, Jason is holding a FA and you have the Bonito?

The spots give it away (I think...)

Yes. Easiest way I found to tell them apart is that bonito have straight lines on their back while albies have uneven wavy lines.
