Picked up a 1/2 bushel of greenies in Pt pleasant on saturday AM. Lightest 1/2 bushel I've ever paid for...
Was planning on heading further south but decided to give the canal a shot. Been awhile since I've fished there and took a little bit to find a spot that looked safe/legal to park and had decent access to the water AND wasn't already taken.
Immediately had action. Between Theresa and myself we pulled out atleast 100 blackfish with the majority going 12-13" with some real small toy-togs mixed in, a couple just short seabass, and about a dozen keeper sized tog from 14-16"
1/2 of a greenie worked well for us. Started the day with 6ozs and went up to 10oz. Lost a good amount of rigs, but not nearly as many as I thought we would.
Had to head back up "north" to take care of a few things and afterwards decided to hit a local pier to use the rest of the greenies. Had about 20 tog in a few hours, all shorts with just one that was right at 14" Much different bite and these fish were much healthier looking as opposed to the more sleek canal fish. Alot of the canal fish were banged up and many had healing wounds at the top of their heads. At the pier we switched to our lighter graphite rods as we needed less than half of the weight necessary for the canal. Nowhere near the amount of action as we had earlier in the day, but still fun.
Sunday we headed back to the pier in the afternoon and had a bit more picky of a bite from the local denizens. T managed to out-tog me 7 to 6. All shorts, with the biggest only going 13.5"
No jumbo fish, but a fun weekend of drowning crabs. All fish released to harass baits another day.
