Well not tonight...  bngh

There were a ton of guys out trying tonight.  From Brick to SSP there were guys trying to capitalize on the really low tide.  I didn't see anything brought in but I did manage my time to drive from Lavallette to SSP and mark all the holes I could find.  some changes but for the most part the holes were there as before but the rips have changed directions quite a bit.

All in all it was a productive day.  Looking forward to tomorrow. TT^

Yeah, I've been looking to do this for a long time now.  I finally got the time to do it.  Besides I was able to stay warm and enjoy the beach at the same time.

Almost froze the fingers this morning with the braid not helping.

OK Guys,

I was finishing up a dull day and stopped at Grumpys for some consolation talk when this gentleman comes in with a really nice size Bass.

Bob Anderson is his name and he hails from Toms River.  The bass weighed in at 27.5 and I believe in the neighborhood of 44".

I hate to say it but it was caught in Ortley Beach on a Grumpy Clam.  It looks like I will have to back up and start using clams again.  Most of the fish on were on clams.  While I was getting ready to leave Grumpys another bass came in 10+ lbs.  again I think he said on clams.  This one was caught in SSP.

Good going gentlemen...There is hope yet.

Happy Catching

Hi All,

If you were wondering where the birds have been, they are gourging themselves  off the beach of Lavellette and Ortley Beaches.

These pictures do not do it justice, they were all over the surface.  Every one I talked to agreed that they were feeding on sand eels.

The problem here is all I could see the only ones catching were the birds.

I will post more pictures later.

Happy Catching

Today was a busy day on the beach...

There were fishermen all over the place and the posse well they were all over the area between the first and second groin in Lavellette.  Because the tide was almost at its ebb there were chances to fish off the outer bar.

Boy do I love this...

BTW, in the last picture there is a kayak out there

Hi Bucktail,

I try to get over there at least twice a week if not more.  It seems that the large stripers are starting to filter in close to shore but they are lazy and are for the most part going for clams as opposed to swimming after plugs or lures.

The guys are throwing everything they have at them and all they want are the clams.

Yesterday That 27 pounder caught off Ortley was a nice surprise.  It also sparked more interest and the beaches are more crowded last night.

I will be going over there this morning after picking up some clams.

Yeah man,  today they were all over south uf the SSH pier but moved north and up past Ortley Beach by around 1:00 PM.

I was out there trying today but it seems that all the fish are too far off the shore line.  IKt was a perfect situation, west wind, high barometer, no waves to speak of it truly lookid like a lake today.  The waves crashing on shore were about a foot to two foot high.

Boy did it look good.  But, the only thing missing were the fish. 5hrug

Did you see the nice fish caught yesterday by Bob Anderson.  That was awesome.  Look up 2 or 3 posts back.  27.5 lbs and 44 inches.  When they opened its belly it was loaded with sand eels.

I am making up a few teaser pattern to mimic them and use as a teaser jig.  If they work I will post the pictures of them if they don't work, well it wassen't me. ;D

I can't believe how calm the ocean was today.  I could actually cast out and see the line on top of the water all the way out to the plug, amazing.

One of my most productive surf lures for December/January has been a Red Gill teaser tied about 30" above an Ava jig. I like to just drag it steadily through the wash, right up to the beach.  Those fancy Ava tails you tied should work great on this rig.;D

And yes, please post some pics of your sand eel teasers when you get a chance.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,

I will post a few pictures later today.  I tied a couple patterns last night and I think they should word pretty good off the surf.

I have been wanting to try the circle hook so this time I tied teasers with a 6/0 circle Gami hook and the dumbell eyes used in the Clouser minnow.

I am hoping that with the treaser tied on with at least a 6 to 10 inch drop the almost jig will rise and fall in a jigging pattern in front of the main lure or plug.

We'll see.

Hi All,

Bob, here are 2 teasers I tied yesterday.  I wanted to try and use the Gami 6/0 inline hooks.  They came out looking very interesting.

I plan on drop looping them with a 8 to 10" drop and run infront at least 24" of the main lure weather it be a plug or a AVA.

I will let you know how they work next week this weekend is very busy.  I am going to try to get over to Lakewood HS for the Fishing Market tomorrow.

Enjoy, Happy Catching

Paul

Paul-

They look sharp! ;D  How long are they?  They look fairly compact, although it's hard to tell the length from the picture.  I was just thinking that, for a sand eel imitation, it might be good if they were around 5" or 6" long.

Hi Bob,

They are about 4" long.  I did not want to make them too long on these hooks because all that would be gone after would be the tail section.  I am looking for the longer straight shank hooks something like on the AVA's. The AVA's have an offset which I guess is ok for now but no one has them.  I am hoping to find some at the show tomorrow.  Or at least some one that can lead me to them.

Just tied up a couple of leaders with dropper loop and attached the teasers boy they look good.  I am dieing to get out but the wind even though out of the west is making that wind chill a bear.  Here in Toms River I am averaging about 12 with gusts up to 29 already.  Wind chill is averaging around 42 right now. bngh 5hrug :'(

Maybe I will try just a few casts this morning.  They are calling for the possibilities of flurries tomorrow.  Argh, decisions, decisions...
