Hi All,

Went out for a couple of hours this morning.  When I reached my starting point, Ortley Beach there were birds working (even though they were only a few) close to shore.  In fact there were schools of eels all over the place.  So much so that the gulls were not going crazy probably because they were gorged.

They were just on the outside bar but within reach of anyone casting from the waters edge.

I was using an AVA 27 with a teaser up front in the same color combo light green & black.

Not even a hit.  But I did get snagged twice by a person in a silver Jeep Liberty who cast right over my line not once but twice.  WTF...We were the only on the beach.  I was the only one till this jerk decided he wanted to fish right where I was fishing.

I wish culling of our species was legal for acting stupid.

Oh well I guess he was mentally challenged ore something.

I stopped in at Grumpy's and the report I got was that no one was catching a thing off the surf at all.  But about a mile off the beach there were boats into 30 pounders right off the judges shack on IBSP.

Everyone is waiting for them to make their way closer.  I hope that will happen tomorrow.  I am keeping my fingers crossed now that they are thawed out.

I am going to be out there with adesai73 in the AM it would be nice if the stripers were a little bit more cooperative.  It is suppose to be a little warmer so maybe that will be the key.  5hrug

Till next time...Happy Catching

10-4, Roger, okie dokie, chief...

I had a small camera with me today but it only had 2 out of 4 batteries needed to work.  My daughter needed two for her camera and didn't tell anyone.  Next time I will check before I go out.

Bucktail, there were confirmed reports phoned into there by one of the employees.  Plus I trust Paul till there is a reason not to.  He is one of the good guys still around. TT^

No I would not do that.  Besides, what if we really nail them?

FWIW, I bring my camera w/me every time I go out.  It's for the day I actually catch something, so that I actually have proof, and my GF will stop wondering why I'm "wasting [my] time."  rofla

Ah, a non believer...We'll show her.  One day you will show her how to catch fish and enjoy it.

My wife is the type of person who likes to go to the beach and doesn't go in the water or fish but likes to walk the beach with her camera and takes tons of pictures.  Then it's my job to make them look nice in Photoshop.

So I get the best of both worlds I get to go to the beach and fish and she gets to go to the beach and take her pictures.  That is why we love IBSP.  It is large enough that she can be gone for hours and I can fish for hours.

If the weather holds maybe we can get over to IBSP in the late morning.  We'll see what happens.

Actually, when it comes to the GF, I kid... kinda.

She doesn't mind coming out when the weather is okay.  She's a HS bio teacher and what she really gets a kick out of is checking out all the critters that people are catching.  She'll even fish at times, although that's secondary to her interest in the animals themselves.

She's really very happy that I've found something that gives me so much joy.  I have no doubt that she'll be almost as happy as me when that first surf fish does come!

See you in the morning, Paul...

Hi All,

ell today was a good day but not a great day.  Ash and I hit the suds with great anticipation but it was not to be.

Ash will give you all the details in a later post I am sure.  But now he knows the difference between an inexpensive setup and one that is tuned and ready to be fished properly.  We stopped over at Grumpys and Paul was able to fix up a rig for jigging and plugging.

On his first cast I was watching his face and the I can't believe I cast that far look was written all over him.  His second cast was even better.  In no time he was casting like a seasoned pro.

We started out at Ortley and moved our way closer to SSH but there were not even birds working.  I suggested we go into IBSP and I was glad we did.

There were birds and bait working everywhere.  After a few lessons on how to read the beach and water Ash was off by himself working the holes and rips like he has been doing it all his life. TT^

In the pictures where he is close to the small breakers and in the picture where he is loading up the rod look about 1/3 up and you will see a patch of dark water,  thats bait my friends tons of it.  The birds were working more offshore as well.  In fact at one point Ash was just standing and watching as the birds were diving into the schools.  pretty neat sight, to watch.

It was too bad that we could not hook up with anything.  But then again everyone you talk to said the same thing tons of bait but no fish around them.  I think for now there are just too much bait in the water and the fish are gorged and if the bait just was not right there was just no way they were going to bite artificial offerings.

Good job Ash and I hope you enjoy your new outfit it is a beauty, use it in good health.

It was a pleasure to finally meet and fish with you.  Thank You for the opportunity.

Next time we will fish a little differently and maybe get a break in the weather that sleet and slight rain did not help.

Happy Catching

Paul

No, he is loading up on a cast in the last pic.  I wish he was, lets put it this way he should of been but there was so much bait that they just would not take artificials at all.

There were sand eels and peanut bunker all over the place.  In some places just 20' in front of you you could almost walk on the water they were so thick.

Gotchya Paul.  At first peek it looks like the rod is bent over forward.  Looking a little harder you can see the rod is bent back.

He'll get em next time. t^
