It is all a part of the game and I have been at it for a long time in the area from the Thunderbird south to the inlet.  I usually walk the beach except for IBSP where I get the pass every year.

And Joe you are right it is the guys in the buggies that are the worse.  I was coming off Lavellette a couple of weeks ago when I noticed a small school of bait near the beach right in the suds.  I got up close enough to stqart casting and up pulls this guy in a gray BB where he and his buddy get out and start casting within 10 feet of me.  Well his buddy gets one fantastic wind knot and he gave up after 5 casts or so all while I just watched.

All he said was I guess we scared them off.  All I could say was YA THINK.  They got back into the vehicle and went south.  I guess they had no idea on how to read the beach because they pulled this on a number of guys on the beach that day.  I am surprised that no one cut their line or worse.

Oh well I guess the sand scum are all over.

Happy Catching

I'd love to hand out business type cards that same something like:

Use Proper Fishing Etiquette
Please Don't Crowd Me!!

Do You Know:
-There are 127 miles of beach in NJ
-There are over 5.3 trillion gallons of water in the Atlantic Ocean
-Fish actually swim along ALL 127 miles of coastline and in ALL 5.3 trillion gallons of water
-You should keep at least 100' away from me

Good idea on the business cards Pfish.  TT^

Paul, I am not putting every buggie guy into this category. There are many of them who know and do the right thing.  t^ Just don't want anyone to think I feel like that about all the buggie guys.  t^ Most are not that way.

I agree, but lately the ones that hunt and peck are really getting annoying.

I tell them if you cross my line I will cut yours, no questions asked.  Give them that crazy Polok look and start dancing around the pole and they get the idea.  Well I guess that is a little exaggerated but the cutting the line works.

It certainly is annoying and seems to have gotten worse.  I didn't fish for several years, but back when I was fishing steadily, I had never been hit in the head with 6oz of lead weight...one for the books this year!

Okay who is going fishing on Friday?

The weather is suppose to be close to 50 and the bass are still around.  I am going to try and be out at Ortley around 11:00 and see what happens.  Got to stop at Grumpys for some salted clams and some good gossip.

Well I gave it a try this morning.  The temp at the house was in the high 40's and the sun was shining so I put a couple of poles into the vehicle and headed over to Ortley.  Well the temp over there was a different story.  Try 36 with a good wind from the south west.

Hit the beach and a few casts my hands started to cramp up from the cold and arthritis.  Called it quits and came home.  Beautiful day but the temps were to cold for me to handle the rod. I wish they made a glove that was warm and flexible enough for fishing.

Oh well, back to getting things ready for the Spring.

Good try!  Today was certainly the day to try and get out.  Going to get freezing cold again this weekend.  I think I will stick to your backup plan...getting things done for warmer weather and maybe a show this weekend.

I stopped by Ortley on my back from B&Ns this morning.  Must have just missed you.  Seemed like that SW wind would be tough to cast into.

I went on the beach in Belmar today. Didn't have a fishing pole in my hand, had a metal detector instead.  ;D

Found: 4 pennys, 2 nickels and one dime. Also found a hat pin from maybe the boy scouts or a similar organization, it was too encrusted from the elements to really make out what was on it.

Bob G found two dimes and Matt found a quarter, nickel and a cheap ring.

At least we didn't get the skunk.  TT^

I used to go fairly often. Haven't been out with the machine in years. A friend started doing it this summer and asked if I wanted to go. Broke out my old White's and off we went.  TT^ The beaches have been picked over pretty good but the ground is frozen so it would be impossible to try digging any targets. Heck, the sand on the beach was frozen after you got down a couple of inches.

It is about twenty five years old :'( Been looking at the new ones and they are up there in $$$$$ ::)up here we have a lot of iron and it is hard to read every thing else. I lived in Bogota and used to go to a park in Fort Lee and all the kids ran around with gold on !!! it was a great place to hit . One day I will take a ride back there.

Best time to hit the beach is in March. You will get the big winds and most of the time you will see it first ;D
