Wading through all the waders...
« on: October 18, 2007, 11:31:59 PM »
OK, I'm in the market for a new set of waders.  My old ones are way to heavy and the boot part is to small for my feet.  I guess my feet got wider or something.

My dilemma is that with my new hips I am having trouble getting into my old ones as well.  I am looking for a wader that is light weight but durable. loose and comfortable and easy for me to put on by myself.  I am trying to become more independent in doing things by myself and this is one of them hurdles I have to get over.

I don't want hip boots especially in the winter time.  I fish till I can't feel my fingers anymore.  Or at least I use to and I would like to get to almost that point again.  Plus I want the boot attached so I just have to slip into the boot.

Neoprene seems to tight and I can't seem to get them past my knees let alone up to my chest.

Any help would be appreciated.  I would like to buy locally and try them on and not go through mail order.

Any suggestions?

Happy Catching

Paul

whats your budget like for waders.  I use breathables in the surf and have no problems with them.  They allow me to move around like I was wearing regular clothes.  The boot foot waders tend to leak faster then the stocking foot ones.  I would recommend getting stocking foot waders and buy a cheap pair of wading boots just for the purpose of keeping your feet a little warmer in the winter,  spring and fall you can get away with buying a cheap pair of tennis shoes to put over the stocking foot waders.  I have a pair of simms chest waders which are breathable and also a pair of hodgemans which are cheaper, but I have not had a problem with yet.  The hodgemans I have are not chest waders or hip waders, they are like a pair of pants with a belt.  I had them for 4 years with heavy use and they don't leak yet.  You will have no problem getting breathables on, as far as keeping warm, look for the ones that have 4 layers or more of fabric.  I would suggest taking a trip to Cabela's to try on every option possible.

WADELITE® Breathable Waders

HODGMAN  Wadelite® Series of Breathable Waders are ultra comfortable, extremely light in weight, and remarkably durable. All Wadelite® waders feature: Rugged "rip-stop" seams; Hodgman's unique "freedom of motion" sizing system which allows for maximum comfort without excessive material and our exclusive Horco-Tex® IIX breathable coating which is completely waterproof yet allows moisture build-up inside the wader to pass through to the outside. You'll stay cool, dry and comfortable, even on the hottest days!

PRICE $139.99

Moss green. 200 gram Thinsulate™ Thermal insulation. Cleated outsoles.

Cheapest pair I found with the boot foot, also I forgot to mention that every couple months I spray my waders with a water proofing spray like camp dry.  good luck!

Thanks Brian, they look good I will have to try and see if anyone in the area is carrying them in stock.

I need the boot type only because I have a problem puttiing on regular shoes or boots.  The bending issue with my hips won't allow me to bend that far anymore.  SO, its full boot as opposed to stocking feet for me from now on.

The 139.00 sounds doable no problem but I would like to try them on before I buy.

Thanks again

Paul
