Hosted Scott and crew today( had Big Al's buddy Tommy in the crew) and initial plan was to run deep to the rough stuff for Sea Bass and Ling. That plan got squashed about 5 miles off when I noticed my port engine temp rising quickly. Shut her down and took a look....water pump leaking like a faucet. So we decided to hit some local spots for the flat ones. Couple drifts yielded the smooth gray kind so we bounced out of there looking for warmer water of the bay. Slack tide came and went and the first few drifts yproduced a couple of keepers and Scott dropping a nice 5lb + fish boatside. Then the drift switched totally and the wind crapped out on us.
The drift was so slow that I dont thing we went above 6 ounces in the channels. End of the day I saw a nice striper swirling in the bunker pods so we chased them around pod to pod dropping the heavy metal....letting the boys hook up to nice 8lb bluefish....most biting off or coming unbuttoned just out of gaff reach.
Nice day on the water .....just wish I could have stuck to the initial gameplan.
