A mostly settled week for weather, but very unsettled week for water conditions. It will be mostly sunny this week with dry conditions. Wednesday Evening and Thursday Day could see lower chances of isolated or scattered showers and thunderstorms. High temperatures will be in the 70’s and 80’s with overnight lows in the 50’s and 60’s. Water conditions will be borderline most of the week. Rivers and bays should be ok, however ocean waters will have a continued onshore flow early in the week, shifting midweek and then returning for the end of the week. Midweek will see effects of Cristobal with long period swell to 15 seconds, high seas inshore at 3-5 feet and offshore at 4-7 feet. Checking daily and local conditions will be necessary this week. Surf and beach conditions will be OK to Cautious. Surf will be rough and elevated due to onshore flow and then effects of Cristobal. Surf will run 2-4 and 3-5 feet with Rip Current Risks High to Moderate. Water temperatures are steady in the low to mid 70’s. UV Index will be High to Very High at 7-8/15

High pressure will remain in control of the weather through Tuesday.  A cold front will drop southeast into the Mid-Atlantic states late Wednesday or Thursday. The NHC tracks Cristobal well out to sea and east of the Carolina late in the week. A more summerlike, warm humid pattern appears to be unfolding for the weekend.

Invest 96L became Tropical Depression #4 and now Tropical Storm Cristobal. Cristobal will strengthen to a hurricane this week, but should stay well off the NJ Coast and out to sea. Water conditions will see effects Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Long period swells to 15 seconds, wave heights 3-5 feet inshore and 4-7 feet offshore, rougher surf with wave heights 3-5 feet with High Risk for Rip Currents. Another area of Invest 97L has emerged near the Cape Verde Islands and will move west-northwest over the next several days.

Heat and humidity returns for the weekend with chances of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the 70’s and 80’s with lows in the 60’s. Water, surf and beach conditions will see increasing winds and seas on Saturday and for Sunday. Seas will push 3-5 inshore and 4-7 offshore.

Have a great week and thanks for reading!

Re: Potential Severe Weather Wednesday
« Reply #3 on: August 27, 2014, 04:10:39 PM »
There is the potential for isolated to scattered strong to severe storms late this afternoon/evening into the overnight. Storms capable of heavy rains, dangerous lightning, and damaging winds are possible. Be alert to changing conditions and have a way of receiving alerts.

Be safe!
