Reel Class Jig-Troll Report 11/1
« on: November 02, 2007, 06:41:04 AM »
Had Jim Harm, his father in law Bob, and son Noel aboard today for a half-day bass-bluefish jig/troll combo.  Broke the inlet at around 7:15, found a hard S wind and 2-4' seas, complete opposite of the forecast for today.  Ran a bit north, found nothing, then went back south and found some life about 2 miles off.  Lots of great marks on the machine, some birds working, and in roughly 4 drifts we had a pick of bluefish in the 5-10# range on AVA jigs w/ green tails.

As the wind kicked up, that crapped out so we put the spoons and shad rigs in and had immediate action in 50-60' of water.  Had many doubles, at times we couldn't keep 2 rods in without one getting whacked by a demon.

Sadly for us, no bass to the south, but we caught a load of bluefish.  The guys were plenty happy with the 5-12# bluefish and had a blast.  Called it a day at 12:30, just as the wind was swinging west, and I did hear of some bird/blitz action well to our north that was starting to get organized by that time.  Hope the guys that ran up there got into some fish.
