4/29 stripers
« on: April 30, 2015, 03:07:34 AM »
Had my buddy Pat and cousin Darrin out for try at the stripes, beautiful morning heading out of Sayreville, surprised to see only one other boat out before me at 6am....started out a little rusty, a couple lost fish(how with trebles I will never know?) but did manage one early.  Bite slowed as I was trolling from one cluster of boats on Jersey side over to Staten island side where another fleet had gathered. More marks on Staten Island side but couldn't land but the one. Not much happening as my cousin exclaimed "looks like a one fish day!"....well he was wrong, changed tactics and it was game on! turned out great....Great Seeing Captain Ron on way in! caught our limit and threw back the big girls, left them biting with tired arms. Great shake down trip, to bad Mako Keith was nursing a little knee injury....poor boy...haa

Okay I know I have not put in a report in a long time but this is too good to not let you guys know.  The big blues and bass are making their way out of the Toms River into the bay and heading for the inlet.  Blues at over 15lbs are not unusual and I saw a 37 inch bass caught foo the bulkhead in Island Heights.

The choice of lures were poppers and deadly dicks.  Now that the bulk of the fish are in the bay you might want to try throwing bunker on small hooks as well.  All the tackle shops are open as though it was summer the bite has been so good.

Happy angling guys,  Heck I might even have to get out there myself.  If you see me come on over and rag chew a while.
