another night at the rips FRIDAY
« on: November 10, 2007, 12:28:28 PM »
From 4:30pm to 1:00am,,  drifting eels and jigging all by myself, braving the weather. Except for the on off light rain it was a real nice night weather wise. But only got shorts. 8 of them. had 1 legal but I tried to lip him in the boat cause the darn net was on the rocket launcher and lost him.  If monday during the day is nice I am going to change my tactics. Maybe try chunking bunker. Any ideas are welcome.  Rariton bay area.

Always good to catch anything, short or keepers.  Keep at it and you will get the biggies.  t^

Depends on how mean you can be...

Nice way - Keep your eels over newspaper which is over some ice (keeps them calm.  Grab one with a rag and right up through the lips.  Get him in the water ASAP to keep down the tangles.

Mean way - Grab an eel by the tail, slam him against the deck untill a little blood comes out the mouth.  Hook the same way.  This way the eel gives off some injured vibes, plus a little blood in the water.

I just put them in a couple inches of water. I give them a squirt every once in a while. I,ve tried just ice but they still get fiesty after you hook them.  I like to hook up through the roof of the mouth and out of an eye. they seem to stay alive longer that way..But I use no. 8 circle hooks and its a pain to hook them like this. 3 foot of fluro, barrel swivel, bead and a 1oz egg sinker.
