Back in NJ 5/26/15
« on: May 26, 2015, 10:24:20 PM »
Hey everyone! As I mentioned before, I'm now living in New Hampshire. I still come home every few months and try to fish when I can. I'm in NJ until Thursday and wanted to make sure I got to do some fishing while I was down here.

Fished today starting at 2:00 PM using bunker chunks. Had my first nice hit around 2:15 PM, but didn't get a hook up. Next hit came around 3:30 PM. This time I hooked up and and fought a bluefish which I'd estimate at around 25-30" for a few minutes until it spit the hook about 15 feet from shore. Third hit came around 4:00 PM. I got a little anxious and set the hook too soon. I was now down to my last piece of bunker. At this point I was pretty upset at my lack of catching and wasn't expecting much. Around 4:45 I get a hit and hook up with a nice fish. Fought it for about 5 minutes and it put up a nice fight. It felt like a blue, but when I saw the size of it shimmer under the water from a good couple feet away I was sure it was a striper. I just didn't expect a bluefish that big. The whole time I was fighting the fish I just kept repeating in my head "you aren't going to lose this one. You aren't going to lose this one". And sure enough I didn't. Pulled in my first fish of 2015 and my biggest bluefish to date. This one was pushing 36". Catching this one made up for losing those fish earlier in the day. Seeing how big this fish was I decided to put the bunker head out there for 45 more minutes to try and catch another big one. Nothing biting except the same blueclaw crabs that have been tearing my bait up all day. What a way to start my very short 2015 season in NJ.

Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.
