July 3rd Ling-a-mania

Reel McCoy (Dogfish Dan to some) and I jumped on the Tagged Fish open boat Ling trip this past Friday.  Capt Chad took us to the “Land where Ling go to die.”  By day’s end the six man crew had four baskets full of fat and tasty Ling.   Bait of choice was clam or squid. Some used Gulp, I didn’t’ but I don’t think to matter to much as they were hungry. We used the standard Ling rig, with 6 to 8 oz’s of lead.  In the morning we anchored due to the current and north wind but by the end of the day the wind died and the current eased some so we drifted.  We finished up around two and headed back to the barn while Chris the mate began filleting hundreds of Ling.  It was beautiful weather and a great way to kick off the 4th of July weekend.  Always it’s a Chad and crew are great.

Thanks for the report Phil.  t^ I did a trip with Chad a couple of years ago like this.  It was drop and reel "big" ling all day. Had a lot of congers that day so we took the clams off and used Gulp all day.  We fished in the area of the BA buoy. That was the day I caught the cod on "the STICK" which is my avatar.

Did Chad put out a shark rig while you were ling fishing?

Had a great time fishing on the Tagged Fish.  I brought the bag of filets to Jay at Bahr's Landing and he had his chef turn them into a nice fish fry for Son,his girlfriend and my wife and I.  After dinner we took the boat out to watch the Atlantic Highland's fireworks.  I ended up anchored behind the Tagged Fish  t^
