NJ Fishing & Boating Weather Outlook Weekend Edition: Aug 29-30, 2015

Warmer and sunny weather for this weekend with borderline water conditions. A dry weekend as warmer and slightly more humid air works its way into the area over the weekend. Skies will have more sun than clouds with increasing clouds for the overnight hours. Highs will be in the 80’s with warmer temperatures inland and overnight lows in the 60’s and 70’s with warmer temperatures at the shore. Humidity will be moderate to high at times. Water conditions will be good to borderline to even cautious late in the weekend. However, overall, I don’t see blow out conditions. BW is on the low side of the models, while the NWS is always cautious (even overly cautious) with their forecast. Winds will increase on Saturday with 10-15 knots and 20 knot gusts. Seas will increase to 2-3 feet then 2-4 feet and 3-4 feet by Sunday Afternoon/Evening. Rivers and bays will be slightly better, but could push 2-3 feet as well. Surf and beach conditions will be good with just some gustier winds to 20 knots. Surf heights will remain 1-3 feet with a Low Risk of rip currents. Water temperatures are cooler by a couple of degrees, but still in the 70’s. UV Index will be High to Very High at 6-8/15.

High pressure will settle across the region overnight on Thursday and on Friday, then move offshore during the weekend. A weakening cool front is forecast to arrive late Sunday into Monday, then high pressure builds in for Monday into Tuesday. A weak system may move across the area on Tuesday, as high pressure continues to build nearby into Thursday.


Next week looks dry with highs in the mid to upper 80’s inland and low to mid 80’s at the shore. Overnight lows will be in the 60’s to lower 70’s, as warmer and slightly more humid air works its way into the area. Water, surf and beach conditions will be borderline on Monday and Wednesday with good conditions the rest of the weak, barring any tropical systems!

The Atlantic Tropics are still active, although not as active as the Pacific. Danny is no longer, as wind shear and dry air eroded that system before making it into the Caribbean. However, the invest behind Danny, which is now Tropical Storm Erika is forecast to move into the Caribbean and then Atlantic Ocean while strengthening to hurricane status. Involvement with Florida to some extent, as well as possibly the Eastern Seaboard, could be in the near future and will need to be watched carefully over the next few days! Now is the time to recheck those emergency plans and kits.
