Labor Day Puffers and Crabs
« on: September 08, 2015, 08:08:46 AM »
I took the kids, wife and her mom out yesterday looking for some puffers and crabs to keep the kids busy and interested. We anchored up at the Mantoloking bridge and started chumming in the screaming current. We had tons of bites which kept the kids busy but, we were just swinging too much. The crabs bit really good but, couldn't land them because of the current.

We moved over towards the island and found a slower current. We managed a handful of puffers and some baby black drum. Only female crabs at this location which all went back.

We took home 2 puffers to try for the first time. I was very surprised how good they were. We didn't catch tons but, the kids had a great time fishing. We ended the day with some swimming at F-Cove.

Fred, fishing the "Kristy Marie" from Manasquan River Club. Channels 16/67/68.
