So, this weekend outlook should come as no surprise that weather will be stormy and water conditions hazardous as a stalled out front with waves of low pressure bring heavy rains, high winds, high tides and rough seas to the area. Saturday and Sunday will both have rain, widely scattered to widespread with no rain at times. Rain could be heavy, however the massive amounts of precipitation does not look like it is going to happen. Still, anywhere from 1-5+ inches are possible, enough to cause some inland and flash flooding. High winds and a strong northeasterly flow around 25-35 knots with gusts to 40+ knots, will bring higher tides anywhere from 1-4 feet above normal. This will cause minor to major flooding in some places along the coast. These higher than normal tides will persist through Monday and could extend beyond that. Water conditions will be cautious for rivers and bays and hazardous with Gale Warnings and Small Craft Advisories in effect. Winds will blow 25-40 knots with gusts 40-60+ knots. Seas will build to 15 feet on the ocean causing a dangerous situation. Surf and beach conditions will be hazardous and dangerous as well, with winds to 35 knots and gusts to 50+ knots. Surf will be dangerously rough with high risk of rip currents and wave heights at 5-15 feet. Rough surf will also cause beach erosion. Water temperatures are steady in the 60’s and low 70’s. UV Index will be Low to Moderate.

A stalled front will remain off the Mid Atlantic Coast into this weekend while large and strengthening high pressure builds across Southeast Canada through the weekend. Hurricane Joaquin needs to be monitored, but as soon as it gets passed the region, weak high pressure will move into the region for the middle of the week.

I am not going to even look at next week yet. There is just too much going on right now and too much that could or could not go on to even begin to guess at next week. Hurricane Joaquin will likely bring only some rains to the area, unless the track changes more westerly. Then, things should dry out and clear up for the remainder of the week? Water conditions will start off hazardous on Monday and Tuesday, even Wednesday, then resolve relatively quickly for midweek through the end of the week. Still not sure how fast that will happen and it will depend on the track of Joaquin, but forecasts are saying everything will be ok come the end of the week, just in time for the tuna trip.

Joaquin is a Category 4 hurricane and will move offshore of the state by Monday Night and Tuesday. There is another invest area behind Joaquin that needs to be monitored now as well.

Have a great weekend, be safe and stay dry. Thanks for reading!
