An unsettled start to the week for weather and mostly cautious conditions on the water. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will have chances of rain. Monday will have increasing clouds and scattered to widely scattered showers, increasing chances into the overnight. Tuesday and Wednesday Day will see more organized and widespread rain crossing the state. Rain will taper off to showers for Wednesday Night as clouds slowly clear. By Thursday skies will be sunny again and remain that way through Friday and into the weekend. High temperatures will range from the 40’s to very low 60’s with overnight lows ranging from the 20’s to the 50’s. Temperatures will be 5-10 degrees cooler this week from last week, however still slightly above average. Northern areas will see their typical departure of cooler highs and lows than the rest of the state and coastal areas will have warmer temperatures, as ocean waters are still in the 50’s and influencing air temperatures. Long range forecasts from weeks to 3 months (which can be very unreliable) are indicating above normal temperatures on average and above normal precipitation. Above normal does not mean a warm Winter, it just means average temperatures will be above normal and could be above normal by only a degree or few.  So, don’t discount the potential for cold and snow. Water conditions will be mixed all week, with pockets of good conditions and then days of cautious conditions with Small Craft Advisories. Winds do not look to exceed 25 knots this week, however seas could push 6-8 feet inshore and 10+ feet midshore to offshore. Conditions will start off cautious becoming better then back to cautious for Thursday. Increased northeasterly and easterly onshore flow will account for the higher seas. Surf conditions will be cautious to ok most of the week with wave heights 3-6 feet on average improving for Thursday and Friday into the 2-4 foot range and then 1-3 feet. Water temperatures are steady in the upper 40’s to upper 50’s. UV Index will be Low to Moderate at 0-3/15.
High pressure will build in from Eastern Canada Sunday Night and move offshore on Monday. A warm front to the south will move north on Tuesday and Tuesday Night. Low pressure across the Plains will track eastward to the Great Lakes on Tuesday. A cold front will move through the Mid Atlantic States on Wednesday. As the low lifts into Eastern Canada, high pressure will build in from the West late in the week and into the weekend.

The weekend will be dry and sunny with highs in the upper 40’s to low 50’s with overnight lows in the upper 20’s to low 40’s. Water, surf and beach conditions will be borderline to cautious on Saturday improving into Sunday and mostly good.

The Atlantic Tropics are quiet and official season ends tomorrow. However, storms don’t know calendar dates. Also, the Eastern Pacific has been extremely active and while direct impacts from storms won’t happen, indirect effects, such as rain or snow can come across the country.

Have a great week and thanks for reading!
