11/17 - SeaHawk charter report
« on: November 19, 2007, 01:47:08 PM »
Had a blackfish charter on the SeaHawk from Perth Amboy today.

Weather cooperated for the most part and we loaded on the boat early, sailing at 6am. TT^

First drop was the most productive overall.  Some keepers were coming up with shorts mixed in and looked like it was going to be a good day.  I put a keeper over the rail and went for another.  Got crushed and broke off a fish.  Spot we were fishing, a few of us in the bow had an old anchor line or something that we'd snag often so made working this piece a bit difficult.

Rerigged quickly and went back down with a nice small whole greenie.  Was soon crushed and knew I hooked a good fish.  Thing would not move from the bottom and was hammering away.  Soon convinced the fish to move a bit and began working him up from the depths.  Nice silhouette of a fish so called for the net.  After a dive or two it was in and over the rail.  Figured 9lbs maybe, but at the end of the day, even with it's throat cut, was good for the pool at 10lbs even ;D

High hook at 5 keepers, a few had 3-4, most 1-2, and a couple managed none.  SOme did put some jumbo porgies and keeper seabass in to the boat.

A great trip with all the laughs, food, and good company.  Catching could have been better, but a great day none the less.  Capt and mate Rob worked hard for our charter and looking forward to fishing with them again. t^

Nice Report Gottog, Where did you ever get so lucky to find a girl that will fish in cold conditions? By chance does her father own a tackle shop  TT^ Thanks for the report and pictures.

Was a slow day actually.  Very frustrating, scratchy bite.  Tog'n in the NY Bight area makes you humble.  Not many drop-n-stick suicidal tog days like often seen in Cape Ma or Delaware area.  bngh

Anybody planning to go on the Seahawk's 7AM trip on Wednesday, November 21?  I'd like to go, but I wonder if there will be enough people for the boat to go.

Sternline, all they need is about 8 fares to sail and captain is confident they'll have that atleast.

They went out on sunday and got beat up a bit, but managed some tog up to 8 lbs.

They're out now on a bass trip and have a 25# fish with other keepers already and said there are loads of bass around the boat. TT^

Seahawk on the ll/21.  Action was pretty slow, but some people did very well with blackfish.  There were some nice size porgies.  Captain Mike tried hard, and the boat has a good atmosphere.  I would definitely go on the Seahawk again.
