Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Father and son, Evan and Josh Wolf, from New Jersey, along with Joseph and Tami from Texas, and Chad and Tami Logan from Tennessee, chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316.  The decision of the anglers on today’s charter fishing trip was to target bigger game fish, which we will do later on in the charter.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore.   We started out trolling with two #8 plainers, one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip.  For surface baits we went with four Bonito strips.  As we trolled the reefs, the anglers took turns reeling in a total of three Bonitos and five Kingfish.

It was now time to pursue bigger game fish, so we headed out to 400 ft. of water north of Fort Lauderdale where there was a definite color change to a deep blue with a north current. We put out one kite with two live Goggle Eyes and three Shark baits – one surface, one midrange and one bottom.  Our first action was from an Atlantic Sailfish – Chad was the angler – he positioned himself into the fighting chair to do battle.  After a twenty-five-minute battle, Chad brought the Sailfish to the side of the boat and Dave, our mate, wired the fish.  Pictures were taken, the hook was removed and the Sailfish was released to fight again.  Great job, Chad.  We reset and waited for another great catch – we were not disappointed.   A few minutes later a large Hammerhead Shark came from the north of Fort Lauderdale and ate the surface bait.  The fight began – all six anglers took turns fighting the Hammerhead Shark and after a forty-five-minute battler, the Hammerhead Shark was brought to the side of the boat.  Pictures were taken and the Shark was released to fight again.

It was time to head back to the dock.  The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316, while watching the plasma TV.
