Although its the cool thing to do setting your facebook default to a clever "I m with Texas" picture and ending a post with #prayers for Texas. It doesn't help at all. Thoughts aren't stopping the rain from pouring down, and prayers aren't pulling the sheetrock down in a living room.
As someone that went through Sandy, I can tell you all the thoughts and prayers did not make it any better. The bottled water, sweatshirt, and toothbrush/paste that the man from Virginia drove all the way up to hand out did.
The people of Texas need help, do not give the Redcross a donation only 10 percent goes to the cause, If you can contact your local PD or FD and see what they are doing to help or need, a $3 dollar case of water will go a long way , that sweatshirt that you haven't taken off a hanger in two years may be the only dry cloth they have. Please do what you can to help our fellow Americans get through this tough time.
