Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Chris Schenkenberger from Hudson, Ohio, along with Frank and Jeanne McNamara from New York chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  Chris, Frank and Jeanne are repeat customers and have fished with the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team many times – we are happy to see them come back over and over again.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore.   We started trolling in 135 feet of water with our spread consisting of (2) #8 deep line plainers with a double hooked Bonito strip followed by a sea witch on both plainers.  For 4 surface lines we went with two Bonito strips and two Ballyhoos.

For the past couple of days, all of the fishing action has been around three of my favorite wrecks that are in 135 ft. of water out to 210 ft.  We trolled the area and the anglers took turns picking away at Kingfish, Bonitos and Barracudas.

“Watch the left rigger, Dave”, I yelled, “there was a swirl behind the bait”.  There he is – the black shadow stuck his bill out of the water, swatting at the Ballyhoo bait.  Another swing and a miss!  On the third try, hooked up Sailfish – as the magnificent Sailfish came out of the water tail-walking to the south of Fort Lauderdale – what a show!   Jeanne was our angler and did a fantastic job fighting her first Sailfish.  After a twenty-five minute of thrilling action, Dave, our mate, leaned over the side to bill the Sailfish.  Pictures were taken, hook was removed and the Sailfish was released to fight another day.  Congratulations Jeanne for a job well done!!!

With a total of one Sailfish, four Kingfish, four Bonitos and four Barracudas, it was now time to head back to the dock.  The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
