Fishing Fort Lauderdale Topshotfishing Happy Day Today Shark
« on: September 20, 2018, 08:13:37 AM »
Kerri and Vicki Grove and Rick and Nita chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing  boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore.
We started the morning trolling the reef with 5 lines total.  Three surface lines and two deep lines.  We had nice conditions with light easterly winds but there was a lot of sea weed.  It was a little difficult to fish because of the large weed clusters surrounding the area we were targeting.   We started working the reef from shallow to deep searching for fish from 100 feet of water to 300 feet of water.  We got our first bite on the deep planner line and caught a Bonita.  Continued trolling and a nice bite on the planner rod in 150' which turned out to be a Bonita. Lines back in the water and we were working the reef going over wrecks and rock structure.  The deep planner rod going off again we got another Bonita and a King Mackerel. The guys wanted to try some shark fishing so we brought in our trolling spread and rigger up for sharks.  I rigged two baits and set them out in different depths.  One bait was about a mid depth and the second bait was close to the bottom.  The tackle we use 8/0 reels with heavy drag at 25 pounds on strike.  After a short time we got a big bite and drag started ripping out. Fish on!!!  Rick and Kerri started fighting the Hammerhead shark and both took turns reeling the fish in.  These guys did a great job and after an awesome fight and we got the shark to the boat, got the hooks out and released the Hammerhead.

It was now time to head back to the dock in Fort Lauderdale.  The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
