Huge Red Snapper catch and a lot more

“Red Snapper Season is one of the most anticipated and exciting saltwater fishing seasons that contribute to Florida being the Fishing Capital of the World,” said Eric Sutton, FWC Executive Director. “The years of collaborative work with stakeholders and partners has resulted in a significant increase in the number of fishing days over the past few years, from just a few days to 45 red snapper fishing days in Gulf state and federal waters this year.”“I’m excited to announce the beginning of Florida’s recreational Red Snapper Season in state and federal Gulf waters beginning Thursday, June 11,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Florida is the Fishing Capital of the World and we are proud to welcome Floridians and visitors to participate in Red Snapper Season as our state moves forward with the safe re-opening of our economy.”Let's take a close look at the American Red Snapper (ARS):ARS reaches maturity at a length of around 15 inches. The common adult length is 24 inches, but may reach 39 inches. ARS grows approximately 4 inches per year for the first 6 years followed by a generally declining growth rate thereafter. The maximum published weight is 50 lb, 4 oz, and the oldest reported age is 100+ years. Currently most ARS landed in the Gulf are less than 10 years of age.A 5-year old Red Snapper produces about eight times as many eggs during a fishing season as a 3-year old ARS. A 10-year old Red Snapper produces 33 times as many eggs as a 3-year old.Quotas:Since 1990 the quota is allocated 51% to the commercial sector and 49% to the recreational sector. In 2011 the Gulf Council began developing Amendment 28 which would modify the commercial and recreational allocation to give more to the recreational sector. However, a court order vacated the amendment and required NOAA Fisheries to reinstate the sector allocation and resulting quotas and annual catch targets that were in effect prior to Amendment 28.The Florida all-tackle American Red Snapper record stands at 46 lb 8 oz caught by Mr. Lane Nichols lll off Destin October 1, 1985.Tuesday June 9, 3:00 PM, the Florida Fisherman ll leaves Madeira Beach's Hubbard's Marina on a 39 hour mission in search of American Red Snapper and a lot more.Last year the early June catches were outstanding:Will they be this year?
