I started keeping a very detailed log bok about 4 years ago.

How many of you guys keep one and what types of info do you include.

i used to, but haven't in recent years... they are worth it.

I record every keeper fluke on my boat.  I record its length and who caught it. At the end of the year guys like to know what they caught for the season.

 I will also record the area we fished, bait used, air and water temp, weather conditions and current movement.

I attached a sheet I made up for the boat.  When I get home I transfer this information onto a composition book and toss the sheet.

I should add, most of my fishing is targeting fluke, thus, the log reflects that.

Can anyone open the file? For some reson I'm getting gobbly-gook (or perhaps it's gaelic  )tried saving and tried opening, same results...

It is an MS Word file.   You would need that program to open it.  If I can convert it to WordPerfect, I also have that.  I will try to convert it and will post it if I can.

It is an MS Word file.   You would need that program to open it.  If I can convert it to WordPerfect, I also have that.  I will try to convert it and will post it if I can.

For some reason my computer was opening it with word pad. Once I opened MS Word and then opened the file it ws perfect.
I'm going to use that log myself...thanks

I opened it no problem with Wordpad.

I don't even have MS Word.

I used to keep a fairly detailed one but now I just keep a general account of the day and use my GPS to record specifics.

For example, I'll name a good fluke waypoint as follows:

F0524R = F= Fluke / 0524 = Date / R = Rising tide

Not a bad system for naming your spots, Bassnblues. 

I usually try to name mine by the area.  That way, as I am fishing, I can set up a route to fish.  Hit one spot then the next, etc, without too much run time in between.  But there are times I will just leave the area altogether due to lack of current, drift, etc.

I have some named for areas too. Mostly the more well known spots for when it's hazy.

Thats a pretty good log page you have there Joe.You forgot to mention how you added up the total inches of fish for the year and poundage.  Aguy with way too much time on his hands.

I have found that keeping a log for the surf is a pain as the conditions change after every storm.  I am there so often that I keep a mental note as to where not so much as the what.

Excellent topic. Thanks for posting your log book. I modified a few things to show flounder as a species.
I copied and saved it to my word document.

I have found many patterns start to unfold after a few years.

But, like Paul said earlier things do change yes.

But certain things do happen time and time again and conditions play a major role in when and where.
