Delaware River Fishing Reports
« on: April 23, 2008, 03:33:30 PM »
I was finally able to get a fishing trip in today. Met my nephew Sam at his house. He already had his trailer hooked up to his Ford P/U.
Pulled the boat to the Trenton ramp and splashed at about 930 this morning.

Headed north to KatManDu area to Sabiki some herring.

We got ten herring and headed south past Bordentown to fish the flats. Anchored up outside the channel and had several run offs. Sam finally hooked up with a nice striper.

Guestimated to be between 25 & 30 pounds. Pic taken and fish released.

I had several run offs but never hooked up. OH well, next time.  t^

Rugman, it is tidal water but not salt. The salt line ends somewhere south of Philly.

So, a fishing license is required?

Nice fish and good report.

I have to offer my expertise here though.

This advice WILL help you get more fish next time you're on the water.  Follow these steps EXACTLY.

The next time you head out .. use a GM truck to tow the boat.  ;D

Hi Skip, I'm good for Friday morning, where do you want me to meet you?

I took the deck up in Little Irish and am in the process of replacing it. I rebuilt the carb and the motor cranks up first pull every time.  t^

After I get the deck replaced it will be good to go.

Eagleyankfan, I don't know about the GM advise. I'll stick to the Ford. ;D

Nice day on the Big D Joe. Your nephew done good. (Sam don't change that)  nosmly rofla rofla

Ford baby all the way.  I've had two of them both with well over 150,000 miles on them now the third a 2000 Expedition has over 90,000 miles and still going strong.  Just replaced the breaks for the first time month and a half ago.

The key is maintenance.  You got to keep up with it.

Happy Catching

in that second pic i think that might be me. i was out there everyday at that time sabaki riggin herring. the guy standing on the wall behind katman doo. the cops and wardens chased me off that wall about 30 times this year. i killed the herring out there. big shads too. some of the sharks caught by us this year was on those very herring.

watch fishing that wall, bums everywhere, dirty dingy, and the police dont want it. anywhere from there down to the trenton ramp is a great spot to catch herring in the spring run. sabaki rigs, says it all. there is even a dude out there who will buy them live, herring for a buck.

I see the warden and cops chasing guys off of the wall alot of times. They are afraid the wall will collapse, like another portion of it did several years ago.

If that is their concern, FIX IT!!!  TT^

I will be out there again next year catching herring for bait. But I will have my little boat commissioned by then and be out most every day.  t^

joe they should fix it. it is a great place to fish. the part that collapaed is closer to the bridge, even if they open the good portion with the iron fence it would be great. there is nice benches there if someone isnt sleeping there. it could be cleaned up and fixed. something for me to look into.                     yes i will be there every day next year my self. every day during the run. you know that there is a second run every year as well. we just missed it was in the last month or so. i thought the herring went up river and died. they dont they come back down, not as many make the trip back but i'm told its just as good.  see you there in the spring.

They should fix that whole area up. But when you have more major problems, I guess doing something for recreation goes to the bottom of the spending list.

The shad are the species that run up river, spawn and die.

Cathy and I headed to Bulls Island this nice Sunday for some Smallmouth action. Cath was picking away at a lot of smaller size fish most of the day until she picked up a decent but under 18" Walleye. It wasn't until the sun started to go down that I started picking up some nice fish on a Fin-S on a unweighted worm hook. The River is Gin clear can you can see bottom in 7 feet of water. As we were getting ready to leave the parking lot I told Cath to get the camera ready we might see some deer and as soon as I rounded the first curve like on cue there was a nice Doe with that deer in the headlights look.  cfzd
