Fished the afternoon tide today. Had some chum blocks left over from the spring and decided to use them and see if I could get a trigger bite going. All that did was attract sea bass, porgies, and snappers. Did manage a couple short tog in that mix but no triggers. Fun day though, drop and reel fishing on light tackle for a solid hour

At canal at 7am, river side of 88 bridge. High tide at inlet was about 6:07am and the water started going out about 3.5 hrs. later. Water a little dirty but not that bad. Nothing on clam but all the crabs got chewed up. 12 blacks with one 16" for dinner. Thats a good day for me.

Popular place today...
I was out by Bridge Ave for the afternoon tide change. with clams.
Had an almost legal seabass and a couple other stall stuff.

Who in the area has crabs in stock right now?

Guys:

I have been reading your posts with great interest. I am interested in learning more about the tog/trigger fishing in the PPC but, honestly I am not familar with the area at all other than I know it is near Manasquan.

When you talk about PPC are you talking about the intercoastal waterway? I fish a 23' WA so, if you could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Fred, fishing the "Kristy Marie" from Manasquan River Club. Channels 16/67/68.

Fellinger.... The entire area is great to fish....But the boat traffic is crazy and makes for some tuff fishing..... To be 100% honest with you I would fish the area around the RT 70 bridge or the South end of the canal in late October - the end of December.
The areas I fish are the ones you said where a wast of time

The canal itself is really a shore fishing situation unless you have a small boat and go off hours.

The canal and small boats do not mix. The water rips through there and is not forgiving. Best bet is the river on the north end or the bay on the south end. Route 70 doesn't cross over the canal but that stretch of water is very fishable from boat

Hit it this morning with crabs for the last of the incoming with my Bro in law. Had a bunch of hits. We each got 2 blacks. I got the only keeper.

20 to 25 fish on a variety of clams and green crabs. Had a double header of 13inch blackfish and about 9 inch seabass.  3 blackfish were 12,13,13 and the rest were small.  What is up this year?  Is it early still or the fish just small.  Also had to pick around alot for them not drop and reel?  Alot of seabass though, that was cool.

Sounds like lots of action Fish Doc.

Heading down to PP on Thurs. for a little R&R for 6 days to chill.

I'll post up report when I get back as I plan to hit the canal often. t^

Shorts O' Plenty on green crab and clams to around 13inches or so, 1 sea bass, 1 oyster cracker.  Hopefully, next time I'll get a keeper.  Nice to be out and NO BUGS!  Saw a thirty inch bass caugth off the beach at Manasquan on a popper so good things are coming all around!

The cooler weather we will be getting will get the bass moving. Won't be long before we are in full swing with the fall season. t^

My buddy and I fished the canal slack yesterday afternoon and got 30 + shorts along with some porgies and seabass between the two of us. Then moved over to the inlet and found some blowfish. Capped the day off with 3 bass on the beach, kept one each, and dropped a nice sized 4th. Lots of bent rods yesterday and great early fall weather.

I fished Saturday with my buddy Jimbo and we drifted the river, the canal and we landed about 20+ Fluke, all shorts, 2 around 17 inches and 2 Lizardfish! I never saw one before yet alone catch 2! When I saw it I thought, Oh No...a Snakehead? We searched online and saw they were very common but not edible, ugly buggers for sure.
