They were catching lots of fluke(shorts) in the Manasquan Inlet yesterday on 4" swimming mullets in pink and white.  From reading, seems to be the consensus and preference on the list here as well!!

I know others will chime in and give you all the answers you might need or want.  Gulp baits are a very popular topic here!   ;D

What seems to be working as well are the 4" (white, pink or chartreuse) swimming minnow on the back of a 1oz or lighter bucktail in white or chartreuse.

The penny colored shrimp are doing well also especially when used on a smaller hook from 1/0 to 3/0.  Remember to try them both ways tail hooked or lip hooked.  Different days it seems to make a difference especially when they swim tail first usually.

Good Luck

Happy Catching

not fer nuthin'...
on Sunday (July 20th), up in Spring Lake, I watched a fellow with a 7' rod using a 3/4 oz bucktai & a teaser hook "baited" with a white 4" GULP Swim Minnow. He was working the suds very close to the beach, not much further out than the first wave. He managed to catch 11 flatties - 4 of which were keepers.

Yeah, I love 'em.  t^

BTW, they used to be called Swimming Minnows and they were changed to Swimming Mullets.  If you have a package from a few years back you might have one that says Minnow instead of Mullet. ;)

Greg 7,

Luna,

The saltwater "Swimming Mullet" http://www.berkley-fishing.com/cat.php?k=96338&sk=96325 (which is the curly tail "Mr. Twister" type bait) was originally called the "Swimming Minnow".  They later changed the name to "Swimming Mullet".  If you see the Saltwater Swimming Minnow (blue logo) it is the older package. That was the one I was referring to.

The "Minnow" http://www.berkley-fishing.com/cat.php?k=96330&sk=96325 is one of their freshwater baits (although I'm sure you could use them in salt as well).  It is more along the lines of a FinS Fish or Zoom Fluke.

The "Minnow Grub" http://www.berkley-fishing.com/cat.php?k=96328&sk=96325 , although it's the same shape as the "Swimming Mullet" is also one of their freshwater baits.

I hope that all makes sense. ;D

-Bob

As far as Gulp Alive, we sell the 4" Swimming Mullet (curly tail grub) in chartreuse.  The 3" is only available in the package.
