blackfishing tip
« on: February 11, 2007, 07:43:40 PM »
Learned this trick from an old salt. When you make your blackfish rigs slide another hook on the leader, bait both hooks, if you don't hook the fish on the first bait you'll get him when he comes back for the other. It works!!!!!

im targeting tog no more than 20 inches so i dont need really big hooks and dicks doesn't have much anymore since its the off season so i have to suffice with 1/0 gamakatsu bait holders and 30 lb fluorocarbon i also have some live bait hooks from my last trip

Ive been using that "Belmar Slide rig" for tog for years now....I use two 2/0
gamakatsu hooks to get it done....and another tip....
The slider hooks get pointed the same way down the leader as the snelled hook.

Here Scott...tied one up with bigger hooks to show it better...
tie your proper snell to bottom hook as normal....then slide 2nd hook down leader going thru bottom of hook eye. Then tie your leader loop closed on other end as normal. I attach this leader about 5 inches above the sinker

How are you baiting that rig Capt. Carl? What I mean is; Are you baiting both hooks with two baits or One bait using both hooks. That may seam like a stooped question, but I had to ask.

It is possible to stick both hooks into 1 crab....however I usually bait each hook seperate with the smallest whole crabs I can find.....legs off, shell on and crushed a tiny bit with the sinker.
