11/1 - No bass yet, still blues for us.
« on: November 01, 2008, 06:53:43 PM »
In the water at 8:30. Out of Manasquan Inlet at around 9:30. Aimed towards the southern edge of the Sea Girt reef. Sent down clams to start and came up with 4 dogfish right away. Nothing else. No real nice marks either.

Set up to troll and trolled an umbrella shad rig and a stretch 25. Pulled up 3 nice big blues. Got another hit, got it towards the surface and it ran under the boat. I chased him around the bow and somewhere under there he spit the hook because on the other end there was nothing. Could have been that elusive striper.

The next few hours of trolling north along the coast produced nothing. Aimed back towards the inlet and came upon a lit screen with no birds. Pulled in the lines and threw down all sorts of crap. Nothing, nothing and more nothing.

Saw a bunch of boats about a mile off the inlet and took a look. Good marks still so we sent down more clams. That prodiced one more dogfish.

No stripers, but no skunk either. All in all a beautiful day and not a waste in the least bit.

Great report and nice catch...blues gave you some action!  The more experience you get fishing, the better your chances of landing a striper will be!

Don't forget...a lot of the guys/gals on here make it look easy, but they have been fishing and boating for many seasons and are very experienced.  In time, it will all come together and you will be the one posting to the noob ;D!!
