tuesday fishing report
« on: November 05, 2008, 09:20:20 PM »
Got the boat set up in my water slip and hit the tip of the hook around 230p. Did a little drifting with nothing looking good. Tried to find some birds with the binocs and finally saw some in the foggy distance. Ran out and found tons of birds working a huge area. Fish were busting all over but I was unable to tell what type. started trolling some 9" shads and got some blues and lost some shads. Switched to Mann 25s and boated some more blues. Switch over to about 20 different jigs and even drifted gulp baits. nothing but blues. Threw a ton of plugs but no takers. Finally about a half hour before dark I tried a pencil popper and before it hit the water it was FISH ON.  bass for the next 20 mts on the popper but only to 26"s. They were feasting on very small rain fish. 1" to 2". I hung around for a while after dark drifting gulp baits for a few shorts but it dried up even though the fish were there.   Went to the rips but it was a horrible drift. no action at all but I was without live bait so eels may have worked. The water was glass all day and night. No bait ont the ff worth anything.   I hate the keeper skunk but I enjoy catching fish so the days challenge was great.

Hey Keith, It looked to me like they were chasing small Spearing. Evertime I had a hooked blue next to the boat it would spit them up. I did very well on a tube umbrella rig of various colors. The tubes were a little bigger than the baitfish but but it worked well for me with 20+ Striper's and 25+ blues and best of all the umbrella tube rig does not get chewed up buy the blues. I had double and triple hookups off Sandy Hook Tues late afternoon.

Looks like I need to get some tube rigs. What size tubes were you using?
