Bigger Catch For Black Sea Bass?

bilde.jpegIn the midst of a six-month shutdown of the black sea bass recreational fishery, science advisors to the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council have concluded that they underestimated the size of the black sea bass population, and now say 2010 catch limits can safely be increased by about 50 percent,

"It's not final, but it's a big hurdle," said Chris Zeman, a New Jersey representative on the council. "I was very happy. I remember looking at those (earlier) numbers back in October and thinking, 'This can't be right.' "

Black sea bass is the latest issue to divide government managers and the recreational angling community which is banned through March from fishing for the species in federal waters outside three miles. Several New Jersey and New York party boat operators could face civil fines over trips in November when customers kept the bass they caught.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration officials imposed the emergency ban in October, based on survey results that indicated the recreational sector would overshoot its share of the catch in 2009. Meanwhile, the Mid-Atlantic council lowered catch limits for 2010 at the recommendation of its science and statistical committee, despite a reassessment of black sea bass that showed the stock was not overfished as previously thought.  Read More Here on app.com

Local NJ Fisherman reunites with Son after 5 year battle

RIO DE JANEIRO -- A Brazilian family today delivered a 9-year-old boy to his American father, ending a five-year custody battle.

The boy, Sean, was brought into the U.S. consulate by his maternal grandmother and his stepfather, making it into the compound's front door as scores of reporters and cameramen tried to get close. His U.S. dad, David Goldman, was waiting for him inside.

Sean Goldman, Joao Paulo Lins e Silva, Sergio Tostes

Sean Goldman 9, arrives today at the U.S. Consulate in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, hugging his Brazilian stepfather, Joao Paulo Lins e Silva. The man in the suit at right is the family's attorney Sergio Tostes. David Goldman's bitter five-year battle to regain custody of his son neared conclusion Wednesday, when the child's Brazilian family halted its legal efforts as a court-ordered deadline for delivering the boy loomed. Goldman has said repeatedly that until he is on a plane heading to the U.S. with 9-year-old Sean at his side, he would not feel relief. But with a court ordering the boy's handover this morning at the U.S. Consulate, the end appeared to be in sight. (Eduardo Naddar/AP)

Tuna-Tic Stripers and Blackfish LIMITS

stripers_group.jpg The next two weeks should be great striper fishing. We changed tactics and went back to bait fishing and it's really working out well. Caught over 40 stripers yesterday, keeping our limit, in just four hours then went on to catch our limit of 8 blackfish before heading in. Mid week is much nicer out there...very little boat traffic...but we're still doing really well on the weekends. This Sunday 11/8 the Islander will be sailing open if you just want to jump on its $50 Per person leaving 8AM from 6th street in Barnegat Light.

If you want to get out bass fishing on the Tuna-Tic...the next two weeks is the time!
Available dates are: November 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, & 15

Also Blackfish goes to 6 fish per person on November 16th. So we will be running Bass and Blackfish combo trips on the Tuna-Tic from November 16th to December 14th.
The Islander will be running an open boat Blackfish trip on November 16. and several weekend dates to be announced. Call to reserve your spot.
