Fluking off Red Church
« on: July 16, 2008, 11:35:25 PM »
Went out about 1 with my dad today, went off the Red Church near Deal. Tried fluking for a while, lost several rigs due to snags, a few bites, but no catches. Saw some bunker go by, snagged a few. Had a big run off, thought it might be a blue or striper. Ended up a thresher shark, caught 2 more, last one about 5 feet. I felt like Quint. Released all 3. They were on top and in the middle feeding on the bunker, which were all over. At least we had some action, all in all, the fluke have been scarce, as far as I'm concerned. They tell me at Bogan's that fluking is real slow, so I don't feel so badly. Greg Bogan says the water needs to warm up some more. Ocean was beautiful today, a real 10 weather wise. Will try again on Saturday.

Nice report. The fluking has been off quite a bit this year. The south wind has not helped at all. Now that the wind has changed, the fluking should improve.  t^

... they also make great steaks on the grill :)

Yesterday at the reef I tried putting out some BIG BAITS b/c I had a hunch threshers or browns were around the pods, but it didn't happen.

I didn't think browns were good eating? I know threshers and makos are but have never kept a brown shark?

Regarding the wrecks----The Rushland and the Adonis went down in 1877 and 1859 respectively. Do wrecks actually last that long?

there really aint much left of them .. you have the ballast stones that are the highest  point  and maybe the boiler of the adonis left. I have bricks from the wreck that have  stars cut out in them the bricks are red . (red star liner) was the name.. sister to white star the titanic.
