Title: NY Finger Lakes
Post by: Treebeard on April 23, 2008, 06:55:17 PM
This board looked so lonely with no posts yet..I figured I'd start it off with one of my favorite locales, the Finger lakes area in central NY.. I've been going up there with the family for the past several years for summer getaways.. The fishing can be fantastic, and there are so many lakes within a short distance, that you can pick your species, and usually find some solitude..And the scenery is spectacular.  We usually rent a house that will accommodate the whole clan, and it works out to be pretty reasonable..I always go for a lakefront house with a dock, so I can step out and fish at any time of the day or night! The last couple times we've stayed on Honeoye Lake, one of the smallest fingers which keeps the waterskiers and jetskis to a minimum..  It hosts a good population of Walleyes, and is packed with Largemouth Bass, and some of the biggist Bluegills I've ever seen,  making for nice fish frys.. If trout are your bag, nearby Keuka, Canadaigua, Seneca or Cayuga  all have coldwater fisheries, along with great Smallies and Wallys in most cases.. Lots of family activities to be had in the area as well. For more adult fun there is Fingerlakes Racetrack, and Turning Stone Casino close by..Here's some pics from last summer.

One of the few times I can get my Pop fishing is on these trips, which is one reason I enjoy them so ....Here he is with an average Honeoye LM:

I'm heading up to the area on Thursday.  Love it in the Finger Lakes and have been fishing up there since 1998.  Going walley fishing this weekend.  I'll post up some pics when I get back.

The weather was not nice for my visit.  Got out for a few hours with my son and caught a mixed bag of smallies, rockies, black crappie and perch.  No pics sorry.
