Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Eva Van Der Veer, Bas Schonenberg and Dirk Schonenberg from the Netherlands are here for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show to show their lines of flagships from Royal Van Lent.  They chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea fishing Fort Lauderdale FL.  Being close to the Port Everglades inlet, 15 minutes after leaving dock we had lines in the water.  With the breeze out of the east, northeast, 15-20 mph, seas running 3-5, blue waters pushed into the 2nd reef in 80 ft. of water.  1.8 miles from shore is where our drop off is located sitting in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy off of Fort Lauderdale.

I went directly into kite fishing – flying two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite and one from the rigger.  While Bas and I discussed fishing in Mauritius that sits in the Indian Ocean off of Madagascar, which both of us have fished, a Shark appeared on the right long kite.  Dorsal out of the water, circling a frantic Goggle Eye – the Hammerhead ate the Goggle Eye and swam off, not realizing he was hooked yet.  We cleared the rest of the fishing lines and concentrated on the Shark.  Twenty minutes into the battle, the line went slack – we pulled the hook on the Shark.  We reset the same set-up – this time another Hammerhead Shark appeared on the right short.  Bas was the angler and he brought the 6 ½ ft. Hammerhead Shark to the boat as pictures were taken, and released to fight again.  We setup our fishing lines again – a black shadow appeared on the left short kite – Sailfish!!!  Eva was the angler this time.  Dorsal and bill came out of the water as he chased the Goggle Eye around till capturing it.  Immediately the Sailfish came out of the water and tail-walked towards the boat, which felt like an eternity.  From there he did a 360◦ showing off his beautiful neon colors while the sun glimmered down on the Sailfish.  Our mate, Jackson, wired the fish, pictures were taken and the Sailfish was released to do battle again.  Back to setting up again – this time catching a Black Tip Shark and a 4 ft. Barracuda.

It was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
