Another mixed week with some far reaching effects of Tropical Storm Bertha. Showers, rain and thunderstorms are likely through late Wednesday before clearing out for Thursday and Friday. Storms could be generally strong to severe with heavy rains, dangerous lightning and damaging winds. Storms will be mainly scattered with widely scattered to widespread more likely on Wednesday. These chances are generally low this week for storms, so some may see storms and others nothing. High temperatures will be in the 70’s and 80’s with moderate to high humidity through the end of the week. Overnight lows will be in the 60’s and low 70’s. Water conditions will be good this week. Winds will be low to moderate, at most and varying from north and west before shifting to the east at the end of the week. Bertha will bring a long period swell on Tuesday and Wednesday and even into Thursday at 10-15 seconds. Offshore could see some higher waves, but closer or beyond the 20 nm mark based on the current track. Surf and beach conditions will be good to ok. Surf will begin to pick up on Tuesday with an extended period swell, rougher surf, wave heights to 3-5 even 4-6 feet and High Rip Current Risks. Surf could remain rougher and dangerous through the end of the week. Water temperatures are in the 60’s and 70’s. UV Index will be High to Very High.

An upper level low over Western Pennsylvania on Sunday will lift northeast into New England Sunday Night. A frontal boundary will remain off the East Coast early this week. Tropical Storm Bertha is forecast t track northward off the Southeast Coast Monday before curving to the northeast on Tuesday and remain well off the coast. A cold front will move through the region Wednesday. The front will stall just south of the area late in the week into next weekend as high pressure attempts to build in from the Great Lakes.

Tropical Storm Bertha is forecast to remain well off the coast, likely becoming a Hurricane between the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Well offshore will see seas to 15-20 feet with a long period swell of 10-15 seconds. For the immediate coastal waters and midshore to 20 nm offshore, the effects look to be a long period swell on Tuesday, Wednesday and even Thursday. Some higher seas offshore will be possible and surf along the coast will be rougher and increasing to 3-5 feet with High Risk of Rip Currents.

The weekend looks dry with highs in the upper 70’s and low 80’s with overnight lows in the low to mid 60’s with low to moderate humidity. Water, surf and beach conditions look good for the weekend, right now.

Have a great week and thanks for reading!
