Title: Prism Tape
Post by: Bucktail on November 21, 2010, 01:28:30 PM
I love this stuff! ;D  It really gives new life to those old jigs and casting metals that have seen better days.

Cut to size, peel and stick.  Couldn't be simpler.

Below is a pic of some old Mega Bait jigs that have caught just a ton of fish for me.  Unfortunately, on top of the fact that the paint was almost entirely eaten off, they are no longer in production.  So, I just changed out the old, rusty hooks, added some prism tape, and they're ready to catch many more. t^

There are several companies that sell this tape.  The brands I've used are from Luhr Jensen (http://www.luhrjensen.com/products/accessories/luhr-tape) and Witchcraft (http://www.shopwtp-inc.com/index.php?osCsid=c51ede82fa9f6cd1ed4a8cfcd21b5e3a).

Nice Job Bob ! I've got to do that to some of my old jigs this winter. Can you get this stuff at Dick's (around the corner from my house), or do I need to get it on-line?  <'((((><

Thanks guys.  They're nothing fancy and they won't win any prettiest lure contests but, as Capt. Joe said, "(It's an) easy way to spruce up an old lure."

Darren,

Unfortunately Dick's stopped carrying most lure building and rig and fly tying accessories a few years back.  Last time I was in the Point Pleasant area I found some of the Luhr Jensen tape at Brielle B&T.

I've also used the Witchcraft tape.  It's good stuff as well and they seem to have the biggest selection. But since Mudhole B&T moved away 10+ years ago I don't know where to find it locally.

Hope that helps! t^

Bob did you do any prep to the lures before putting the tape on, Bath in soap and water or a wipe down with a alcohole wipe to help the tape stick any better?

Nah.  Usually just peel and stick.

TO insure bonding I always run C/A Glue ( Super glue )  thin set at the seams after application of tape to jigs or lures.  it finds it's own way underneath the tape  TT^

Just tried it and it worked. Took the tape and put in on the top half of a plug then sprayed it with plastic spray paint lighlty just enough to cover. It looks like the scales are shinny an coming through the paint sort of like the old spitting image lures
