Title: 08/11-Fluke & Bottom Fishing Report
Post by: Skolmann on August 11, 2007, 04:42:53 PM
Other than being alittle on the cool side in the early morning it was a great day to be on the water. High bright blue sunny sky with a slight wind out of the north at less than 10. A small ground swell early that subsided during the day.

Started off fluking in Ambrose using jumbo Peruvian spearing hooked on a tandem rig. Current was mild thus allowing us to initally use 6 ounces of lead. We picked a few in the 19-20" class. I was also able to bucktail up 1 nice keeper. Around mid morning the outgoing tide picked up making the drift jump from 1.3 Kts to almost 2.5. We decided to bailout on this spot and moved over to a dredge hole along Chappel Hill Channel. Right away we put another 2 fluke in the box to bring the total to 11. However that bite quickly died.

We then decided to hit some snags out between the channels for some sea bass & porgies. Once the anchor came tight I had an instant bite that I knew was a decent fish. Turned out to be a platter size porgy close to #2.25. We had a good bite for about 30 minutes before it shut right down. However in that time we added a total of a dozen porgies and sea bass to our catch. Porgies were all dinner plate size or better and the sea bass were in the 15-16" class.
