Title: 09/23/2010 BFT REPORT
Post by: Chicken of the Sea on September 23, 2010, 07:40:13 PM
Out this morning with the crew of Freddy, Neil and Gary for a shot at the bfts. In spite of the forecast we had a nice ride out at 30 kts and arrived on the grounds with only a few other boats in the area. Saw a dragger working the area and strolled over to check it out. Starting marking some fish and bait and stopped to do some jigging. The machine lit up with tuna marks that resembled an inshore bunker school. Everyone hooked up instantly and the bite was fast and furious for about 30 minutes. We boat 8 or so and lost nearly as many due to a bad guide and some leader failures. The bite died and we sniffed around only to come back to the same area. Caught a few more albies then as we were preparing to head for the barn Gary hooked into the fish of the day. After about a half hour Gary tapped out and I stepped in to put the finishing touches on a 53" CFL bluefin. By 1245 we were headed for the barn. All of our tuna fish except one (sardine) ate TGT Tuna Luna Squid jigs (pink and green) and 6 ounces hammered diamond jigs. In addition to the BFT we caught a bunch of big albies. God Bless America and God Bless Our Troops.

Hotrod,

I was on the fence about going as I wasn't looking forward to catching a beating. The winds were sw and for the 1st 20 miles it was beautiful. The rest of the trip was in the trough and once it was light I was able to run 28-30kts comfortably. The wind dropped out and then puffed from the ne for the ride home - again at 30 knots - the wind and fish gods were good to us.

Always best to take a ride to see the conditions for yourself instead of listening to the weather guys from NOAA. They don't KnowA thing.  :P
