What else works for preventing blues from biting you off besides steel leaders

Setting your drag properly and good knots help more then anything IMO. I have only been chopped off when my drag was too tight.

Yeah i have been chopped off more times than i can count mainly because i use 30 pound floro and my drag is usually set perfectly

I had one bite me off even lip hooked he jumped shook and cut me off lol

Check leaders for frays (especially right at the knot) and replace frequently

I think using black terminal tackle and longer shank hooks helps a little.

wire is the only thing that will prevent it, even wire will get bit through sometimes

Yep, wire is the way to go. If you only throw old, beat up plugs, or your worst, cheap jigs, you wont feel too bad when you lose them.
