Irish Ayes on the drift
« on: October 11, 2008, 07:11:53 PM »
Headed out today with Andy, Bob G and Lou on board.

Broke the inlet and saw some birds flying around, not diving but something had their attention, by the Shark River Bell Buoy. Headed over to the area and we made a few tosses with some metals, nothing happening.

Headed north and did not see any other bird activity.

Got to the Red Church and recorded some nice marks on the bottom. Looked like porgies with the marks heading up off the bottom and rising about five feet, looked like a christmas tree.

Put some lines down with clam and squid. Started catching porgies mixed in with sea bass.

Drifted an area about a 1/4 mile long. Caught fish with every drop of the lines. Continued drifting this area for the remainder of the day, the fish were scattered all over. Put thirteen seabass and seven porgies in the cooler. Caught and released well over one hundred short seabass and porgies. Plenty of action all day, just not a good ratio of keepers.

We also caught six fluke, one was of keeper size. All fluke released after a few choice words were uttered by the crew.  ;D

Will be back at it tomorrow.  t^

Them flukes....they just messing with you...   ;D

Good report, I like it when locations and type of bait is given in a report...helps the rest of us make better desicions and possibly save some gas not running to unproductive grounds.
Thanks again...   t^  t^  t^

Forgot to mention, fish were spitting up sand eels when they came aboard.  TT^

Nice report, I thought I had a keeper fluke coming up today too but when I was raising it into the boat I notice it being a 2 1/2 lb winter flounder. It was also released with some choice words.

On Wed that area had the birds circling up high and when we jigged the marks under them we caught sea bass.  Ava 27's seemed to be the best.
