Title: There is nothing like....
Post by: FishOn on June 20, 2012, 12:28:47 PM
....a rogue set of waves coming at you while standing at the tip of a jetty that makes you feel more alive.  Life flashed before my eyes last night as I was lifted up and moved back ten yards onto another rock. Sea level rose up about 4 feet for a bit. Be careful out there fellow surf rats.

It can get scary at times out there. Fortunately you were put down on another rock and not in the briny.  t^

There have been some pretty nasty waves today in the early morning.  As far from jetties they are great but I am relegated to the beach as artificial hips and jetties don't mix.

Be safe out there.

Happy catching

Paul

Something that gives me the chills about jetty hopping isn't getting swept off or getting scraped up. It's getting knocked unconscious or breaking an ankle or leg and not being able to get out of the water or back to shore. You can be the best swimmer in the world but not if youre knocked out face down.

The highest driest series of rocks heading west. Or the area or water that moves towards the beach and not out to sea ;)

First off, I'm glad to hear you're safe.

One morning a regular at the B&T came in with scrapes and bruises like you would not believe!  They were all over his arms, chest, neck, face and legs.  I mean, this guy looked like he had just been run over by a dump truck!

The night before he was fishing on the South jetty, in some nasty weather, and got swept off by a wave.  The tide was running out. Hard!  He said it was all he could do to swim and then claw and climb his way back onto the rocks.

Short lesson - Jetty fishing ain't no joke! nosmly

Personally, I'm too clumsy to jump around on those rocks.  But, if I did, I'd wear a PFD.  For sure. t^

Same here.   Things can go bad fast.
