Irish Ayes fluking 8-19
« on: August 19, 2008, 07:19:17 PM »
Had a full boat today. Me, Howard, Ralph, Maurice, Dave and Curt. Left Shark River inlet and aimed north. Hit several spots about three miles off the beach. Slow drift, slow catch. Wind out of the west and hardly blowing.

Moved several times looking for current to move us. Couldn't find my current either. Tried several spots that usually hold seabass. Brought many small seabass to the boat and they were promptly released.

Wind picked up some in the afternoon. The catching started to pick up some also. Finished the day with one keeper seabass and seven keeper fluke. Howard was the recipient of the largest fluke pool with a fluke that covered 23 1/2 inches of the measuring board. High hook honors went to Maurice with three decent fish.

Water temp started at 64 degrees at the inlet. Went up to 72 degrees. The further north we went the higher the temp went.

Bait of choice was squid strip with fresh spearing.
