catfish's fluke report
« on: May 24, 2008, 08:42:53 PM »
met up w/ scrubby and left eye early this morning and headed out to the fluke grounds to start our season ,we all had high hopes of a box of big fish but the fishing gods were not on our side today ,I started off w/ a 17.5 fish that had to go back just seconds into the first drift and I thought it was gonna be easy the rest of the day but it wasnt ,scrubby opened up quick and put 3 keeps in the box up to 23 inch and I went into a rut ,I was landing fish just shy of the 18 inch mark and was getting pissed fast ,every other fish had to be measured then thrown back .Tom was in the front of the boat holding his own and he put a 19" in the box and I felt the pressure on me, at that point I started fishing hard and dropping 3 good fish ,then the bite died off and I thought I was gonna be the mush of the trip ,it was now nearing 1 pm and I was yet to have a keeper and we were just picking at fish until I laid into a good feeling fish,I knew it was a keeper and my last chance and I fought it w/ ease until I looked over and saw scrubby standing there w/ the net then I paniced and had to instruct him {yell at him } on how to net my fish ,I have to give him credit he did get it in the net on the first try and I landed my first keep of the year a 24" fluke .As for the over and under on scrubby and his bucktails it was an over ,he had at least 50 for one trip ,I laughed at him this morning when I saw the bucket of them and then a tackel bag ,he looked like he was going on a trip for a month ,we ended the day w/ around 50-60 fluke and plenty of birds mixed in .Sorry no pics today I will post them tommorow after I get off the boat
