Belmar: Irish Ayes Fluke Report 7/8/08
« on: July 08, 2008, 10:04:09 PM »
I was invited back (go figure ;D) to go fishing on the Irish Ayes with Capt. Joe today.  Joining us today were Maurice, Rich, Ron and Bob.

Before we left the dock, Joe, Maurice and Rich went on a search mission around the marina and found several peanut bunker which were quickly netted and brought aboard for our trip.  We left the slip around 8:30 and headed north into some decent size swells.  The wind today was a tale of two extremes.  It was either barely blowing or it was honking around 20 kts. out of the south!  There was no in between.  By the late afternoon the wind was really howling, which made the trip back a bit bumpy.  Although that boat of Joe's does a great job of cutting through the slop! ;)

Joe put us on some good pieces and we picked away at the fluke and sea bass all day.  We boated six nice keeper fluke and five sea bass.  Along with those fish were quite a few short fluke, sea bass, sea robins and dogfish to keep us busy throughout the day.  Ron was the pool winner with a fat 22" flukie! TT^

The fish bit on many baits today.  Squid, spearing, smelt, dogfish and Gulp! all worked.  I tried the Lucanus jigs again today and couldn't get a sniff on them.  I started hooking up after switching over to a bucktail & teaser rig.

Despite some rough water and tough conditions everyone had a great time today!  Joe kept us entertained with his jokes and Ron tried to keep us entertained with his singing, but I think Joe preferred the radio! rofla

All in all, a fun day with a great bunch of guys!  We had a good amount of action and several keepers for the table!  I hope to do it again sometime! t^

-Bob

Hey Bucktail, very nice write up. Couldn't have done it better myself.  ;D

Thanks for putting up the report. Being my 4th day in a row fishing, I was a little tired when I got home and it wouldn't have gotten up until today.

It was a little bumpy ride getting back with the wind pushing the seas up a bit.

Nice pics too.  t^

Joe we are all very concerned that you may not be getting enough rest what with all the fishing you are doing.

Keep up the good work  t^
