Title: Irish Ayes mud hole trip
Post by: IrishAyes on September 30, 2008, 07:26:53 PM
Had to get out today to shake off the cob webs after last weeks blow.

Irish Ayes left the dock with me, JOzwirk, Bob G and matt on board. Broke the inlet to find a flat ocean. Headed east to the Oil Wreck.

Pulled up short of the Oil Wreck and put out a seven line spread with various ammo on the lines.

Pulled the lines around all the pots with out a hit. Headed toward the Monster Ledge, no marks on the machine, saw some bait near the surface but no other signs of life.

As we were trolling we had a visitor come thru the cabin door and perch itself on the dash.

He stayed around for a bit, checking out the scenery and taking a rest.

After his well deserved rest he left via the front window.

Retrieved our hardware and boogied to the Humpty Dumpty/Little Italy area. Trolled around there for quite a while, again without a strike.

Made another move, this time in shore to the Manasquan Ridge. Trolled around and saw some water splashing near us but had no hook ups.

Started making our way toward the shore to troll for bass near the beach. Got about a quarter mile from the Manasquan Ridge when the starboard outrigger went off. JOswirk brought in a small bonito. The only action for the day.

Trolled along the beach for about five miles with nothing happening.

No bird activity at all today, except for the visitor.  t^

Great weather and great day to be on the water, even with the lack of action.

Thanks for the report Joe and the bird pictures were great.

You probably would have done quite well close to shore as the birds were working and the bass are on the bite.  I saw a total of two brought in and read about numerous others landed as well.

I think the tip of the run has started and it seems like it is inshore this year so far.  Good sign for this year in two ways, 1) the run has started early and will end late, 2)the run is running close to where us surf guys can reach them.  If they stay close it should make for a banner year.

Thanks again

Paul

Mark, the water temp was 66 degrees at all the spots we hit.  :P I'm betting that had a whole lot to do with the lack of fish there.

Did get up to 68 inshore of Manasquan Ridge.

Thanks for the info Joe.. I was afraid the temps dropped after that blow.. Hopefully things will pick up by the weekend.
